Festival Buttons
There is no admission charge for many Festival activities including the Art Exhibit, Art Market and Music on the Beach. It does cost the Harrison Festival Society a significant amount of money to make these activities available; therefore, we ask that you buy and wear a $2.00 Festival Button. You will be showing your support for the Festival and you will not be asked for donations at each Festival site.
If you are able to make a larger donation when buying your button that would be greatly appreciated.

Angus was a British Champion accordion player by age 13 and over the last ten years, has toured and recorded with Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Paul McCartney, and a host of Scottish traditional musicians.  Ruaridh is a 'fiddle master', equally at home playing classical, pop or traditional and winner of the prestigious Glennfiddich Fiddle championship.

On Line: Mushfiq Ensemble

BIJOUX DU BAYOU

Saturday, July 7   3:00pm
Hailing from the swamps of our provincial capital, this band can't really describe their style of music "but it's a lot of fun to dance to!"  Although still strongly Cajun and Zydeco rooted, you can hear Celtic, Calypso, Swing and Rock coming through Bijoux's distinct sound.  It's a musical gumbo that's sort of Cajun and very Canadian... Canajun Pardi Gras!
On Line: Bijoux Du Bayou

BLUE MOROCCO

Saturday, July 7   5:00pm
Born in Algeria, Blue Morocco leader Djamal Kremba was part of the 1980s boom in Rai music (Khaled, Cheb Mami etc.) and played at festivals around the world since the age of 14!  Now living in Victoria, BC, Djamal plays the mandole (traditional Algerian guitar) and composes many of his own fun and dance-able pieces to promote a message of love, joy and peace.

AUGUST
Sunday, July 8   1:00pm
Multiple award winners Rae Armour, Beverley Elliott, Linda Kidder and Meg Tennant are successful solo artists who have joined forces to create a powerful musical experience.  Pristine four-part harmonies with guitar, bass and percussion are presented with  warmth and humour. These are women of a certain age, with issues!
On Line: AUGUST

MASABO CULTURE COMPANY
Sunday, July 8  3:00pm
This dynamic ensemble formed of hereditary West African master musicians and dancers fill the air with soaring melodies and driving rhythms.  Masabo is a feast of traditional songs, stories, athletic dance and stunning musicianship that brings thousands of years of African history to the stage with an explosion of energy.
On Line: Masabo Culture Company

MARYEM TOLLAR ENSEMBLE
Sunday, July 8  5:00pm
Egyptian-Canadian singer, composer and songwriter Maryem Tollar has worked with guitarist Jesse Cook, founded several bands from diverse cultures (Maza Meze, Doula) and is regarded as one of the finest Arabic vocalists in Canada.  Her repertoire includes traditional songs, hundreds of years old, as well as her own compositions.

MIHIRANGI

Tuesday, July 10  7:00pm
Paying homage to her Maori roots, Mihirangi's music runs from danceable rhythms to lyrics evoking quiet reverie.  She performs acoustic roots and funky R&B with her own band sound that she creates live in front of the audience.  Using a loop pedal, she layers her vocals into intricate harmonies with beat boxing, acoustic guitar and tribal rhythms.

OLD MAN LUEDECKE
Wednesday, July 11  7:00pm  &  Friday, July 13   2:00pm
Old Man Luedecke left the big city of Toronto, met a girl in the Yukon, fell in love, bought a banjo and fell in love again.  He sings his songs accompanied only by his loving five string, foot stomps and the occasional yodel, blending hokum and inspiration into entertainment for young and old.  He's still sweet on his Yukon girl... and the banjo.

PAUL UBANA JONES
Thursday, July 17:00pm   &   Friday, July 13  4:00pm
Born in London to a Yorkshire mother and Nigerian father and now based in New Zealand, Paul started playing guitar at age 11, beginning a three decade career.  Known for his soulful voice and sprightly guitar, he has recorded seven albums, toured the world and has opened concerts for Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Taj Mahal and Crowded House.

ALEX CUBA
Friday, July 13   7:00pm  &  Saturday, July 14  2:00pm
Few musicians who have just turned 30 can look back on a 25 year career!  Alexis Puentes, aka Alex Cuba, started as a tot in his family's band in Cuba and has an encyclopedic knowledge of the island's indigenous genres of music.  He is a multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer, whose latest album Humo de Tabaco won a Juno Award.
On Line: Alex Cuba

BHANGRA
Satur
day, July 14  1:00pm   &   Sunday, July 15  2:00pm

DOUG COX & SAM HURRIE
Saturday, July 14  3:00pm  &  Sunday, July 15  1:00pm
Doug is regarded as one of the world's leading dobro players, having written several instruction books and CDs.  Sam is an accomplished vocalist and guitarist who grew up playing in Toronto before moving to New York City and returning to Canada only a few years ago.  One of Canada's best acoustic duos, Doug & Sam perform both traditional and original material.
On Line: Doug Cox & Sam Hurrie

LES TIREUX D'ROCHES
Saturday, July 14  5:00pm  &  Sunday, July 15  3:00pm
For over 7 years, this group of 'stone throwers' has been playing traditional music inspired by the Quebec repertoire, with a uniquely creative touch.  Storytellers, singers and musicians, Les Tireux have developed a unique repertoire called 'modern future', a voyage into an imaginary New-World of Old.
On Line: Les Tireux d'Roches

KUTAPIRA
Sunday, July 15   5:00pm
A talented young group of rising stars on the West Coast world music scene, Kutapira plays a tasty mix of Zimbabwean marimba melodies and spicy Afro-Cuban rhythms.  They have cut a CD, started touring, performed at the UNESCO World Urban Forum (where they got 500 people from the UN dancing together) and the oldest member is only 19.
