Over the course of his storied career, James ‘Mr. Superharp’ Cotton has done it all. As an orphaned 9 year old, he learned harmonica directly from Sonny Boy Williamson. He toured with Howlin’ Wolf, recorded for Sun Records and then spent 12 years with Muddy Waters before leading his own band. He rose to the very top of the Blues and Rock scenes, touring the world and earning a reputation as one of the most powerful live Blues performers. He is one of the few players who can literally blow the reeds out of a harmonica from the pure force of his playing. Grammy winner, Lincoln Center honouree and in the Blues Hall of Fame, Cotton also has one of his harmonicas on permanent display at the Smithsonian.
