July 7 - 15, 2007WHAT IS THE HARRISON FESTIVAL? The Harrison Festival of the Arts is a celebration of world music, theatre, dance and the visual arts. The nine-day Festival is held throughout the small village of Harrison Hot Springs and covers a full spectrum of art forms. Over 200 international, national and local artists take part in outdoor entertainment, theatre, concerts, workshops, lectures, demonstrations, literary readings, art exhibits and a juried art market. The Festival features performers and artists from many world cultures and focuses on the diversity of ethnic backgrounds within Canadian society. The colours and music that have their roots in African, Central American and the Caribbean cultures have been a primary theme. The Festival has a mandate to showcase artists, performers, and writers of a professional calibre who enhance the rapidly changing cultural landscape of Canada. Through a wide variety of presentations both on the stage and in exhibit halls, it is hoped that by bringing people together in a cultural setting we can learn more about ourselves and the world in which we live. The Festival has been in existence for twenty-eight years in this small community by the lake and is based on a grass-roots organization. Over one hundred volunteers assist a small staff to implement and coordinate the event. WHAT MAKES THE HARRISON FESTIVAL UNIQUE?
