Rolling Stone magazine called the Pine Leaf Boys “…the next best thing to a Saturday night dance in Lafayette, Louisiana”

The Harrison Festival Society is proud to present one of Louisiana’s finest young Cajun and Creole bands, the Pine Leaf Boys on Saturday, March 13 at 8pm in the Memorial Hall in Harrison Hot Springs, BC. Featuring second and third generation musicians, the band has been nominated for 3 Grammy Awards and has won raves from everyone from Rolling Stone Magazine to the New York Times.

The Pine Leaf Boys have made a name for themselves presenting their own inimitable brand of Cajun music with youthful exuberance. Hailing from the southwest of Louisiana, the band, known for their wild shows and thoughtful arrangements, have breathed new life into Cajun music, reviving ancient songs and bringing them to the bandstand. Being described as “…the link that connects the young and the old generations,” and, “the best new, energetic, and fun Cajun band in a very long time,” the Pine Leaf Boys play the old fashion dance hall standards while making a priority to bring many of the more obscure songs of past to life. The variety and energy they release evolves through their shows, bringing multi-faceted angles to Cajun, Creole, and Zydeco. Their mission is to present the awesome music of their ancestors and present the real Cajun music to the world and prove it is still thriving and full of life.

Wilson Savoy (Cajun accordion & vocals) is the son of famed accordion maker and musician Marc Savoy and singer Ann Savoy, who recorded a Grammy winning Cajun album with Linda Ronstadt. Wilson learned the music from legends like his parents, Iry LeJeune, Amede Ardoin and many others. His father made him an accordion from a Sassaffras tree that his grandfather had planted. He has played with many different groups over the years and appeared in the film “All the King’s Men” as a piano player alongside actor Sean Penn.

Courtney Granger (fiddle & vocals) is master fiddler and powerful singer hailing from the legendary Balfa family.   He joined the family band Balfa Toujours in 1999, played and recorded with many others as one the most in demand Cajun fiddlers, as well as releasing an award winning solo album. Courtney joined the Pine Leaf Boys as a full time member in 2008.

Rounding out the band is a great rhythm section.

Drew Simon (drums & vocals) a hard-core traditionalist and multi-instrumentalist who loves “simple, older, blue collared Cajun’.

Jon Bertrand (guitars) is heavily influenced by classic Cajun performers, but is also known as a rocker and brings that energy to the band.

Thomas David (bass) is the son of Jambalaya Cajun Band bassist Ken David and was bitten by the traditional music bug at age 16, when his father bought him an upright bass.

The New York Times described their concert in New York as “combining a mysterious past – the nearly forgotten dialect and the archaic squeezebox’s red bellows – with an unabashed rock n’ roll energy conducive to the elbow-flying, hip-swiveling spirit on the dance floor’.
