AMOS GARRETT & GEOFF MULDAUR

An intimate evening with two renowned Blues guitarists.  We hate name dropping but how can you avoid it with these guys!

Geoff Muldaur
An icon of the 1960s & 70s music scene, Geoff Muldaur is still going strong.  Bob Dylan calls him the male Carolyn Hester (the early folk legend who put Dylan on record for the first time), and he is one of Bonnie Raitt's favorite singers.  "His new record reminds me of why I fell for this guy in the first place" says Maria Muldaur.  English guitarist Richard Thompson says
"there are only three white blues singers, and Geoff is at least two of them."
On Line: Geoff Muldaur

Amos Garrett
US born, and Canadian raised Amos Garrett has for the past 40 years been the go-to guitarist for folks like Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt, Anne Murray, Maria Muldaur, Ian & Sylvia, Paul Butterfield and close to 200 others.  Guitar Player magazine calls him Aone of the most lyrical and original guitarists playing today.@

Shake your world to the Indian Groove!  The goal of Dilvog is to bring Indian music to the world.  By fusing the Bhangra beats and other Indian elements with a traditional western pop song structure and production, the songs become accessible to a worldwide audience.  Dilvog, aka Dal Hothi, is considered the top Indian/mainstream crossover act in Canada and has a strong following in England and the US as well as throughout the Indian Community.  Dal says
"music has the ability to bring cultures, races and religions together.  Let the party begin."

WATERMELON SLIM & THE WORKERS

After 30 years of struggle in an indifferent music industry, Oklahoma City based Watermelon Slim is
"the coolest new name in blues".  Slim's first paid gig was at age 18, he was the first veteran to record an album during the Vietnam war and has worked with blues legends like John Lee Hooker and Bonnie Raitt,.   During the hard times, Slim pursued 'other agendas' such as field hand, watermelon farmer, trucker, teacher, conspiracy investigator, activist and in his own words "budding career criminal".  Slim says "I'm a late bloomer.  Suddenly I have a great band, a great label, a great management team... I'm almost making a living from music."
Tickets: $20.00 ($16 before June 22); Senior/child $18.00 ($14 before June 22)

On Line: Watermelon Slim

LITERARY CAFE
An evening of Jazz, Java and the Written World.
The Arabic word 'Adab' is used as the word for literature.  Adab literally means 'to invite someone for a meal', and implies politeness, culture and enrichment.  Montreal poet, songwriter, playwright, photographer and activist Ehab Lotayef will be reading from his works and presenting a slide-show of his many trips to Iraq.
Vancouver's Elen Ghulam will read from her book
Don't Shoot!... I have another story to tell you: Tales from the life of an Iraqi Canadian Woman about her experiences living in the Czech Republic, Kuwait, Israel and Canada.
One of Canada's best known Arabic singers, Maryem Tollar, has written music for the poetry of her uncle Ehab Lotayef and will perform these works throughout the event with her ensemble of talented Toronto musicians.
Co-sponsored by Continuing Studies at the University College of the Fraser Valley.

A hilarious series of snowballing phone calls between two women planning a surprise party and the woman who wrongfully assumes it’s for her.  Performed entirely in its original French language, with English subtitles.

Herstory (from Talking With… and Vital Signs, by Jane Marin) directed by Lynne Wells and Sandy Tait.
